Some good news, an innovation called the ColiGlow test kit on water quality testing developed by Dr. Marion Jason (https://ehs.eku.edu/people/marion) our collaborator from Eastern Kentucky University has received a Global Health & Innovation award at the https://ghic.uniteforsight.org/ which ended on 11th April 2021. The award is on innovation on E. coli testing on water quality ColiGlow – A Novel Low-Cost Kit for Quantifying E. coli in Water in Low-Resource Environments. The grant will avail resources to provide 450 of the new test kits to Kisii University for E. coli( E. coli (Escherichia coli), is a type of bacteria that normally lives in your intestines. It’s also found in the gut of some animals) testing from 2022 for a program which will be carried out in Kisii, Nyamira, Homabay and Migori counties within the proximities of Kisii University. This award will bring attention to Kisii University and provide possible networking benefits fir staff and students in public/environment health in the coming years within the school of health sciences. We are currently seeking a broader MOU with the University of Eastern Kentucky with a focus in environmental and public health interventions for reducing water-related illnesses in South Western Kenya. Dr. Marion Jason has visited Kisii University on two occasions and will be the lead collaborator from East Kentucky State University. Alex Ontiri public health officer is part of the program.
