Postharvest Technology Extension Project

Kisii University in collaboration with the University of Minnesota carried out an extension project that targeted horticulture women farmers in Kisii and Nyamira Counties .The project aimed at educating farmers on effective postharvest handling technologies. This minimized post-harvest losses and enhance increased household food security and income. Ten demonstration plots to act as model farms have been established in ten sub-locations participating in this project. Training workshops have also been conducted to equip farmers with the relevant skills for minimizing postharvest losses.


Book Donation program

The      University donated books to the community libraries and some schools in Vihiga, Kisii, Homabay and  Busia Counties. This program aimed at cultivating a reading culture among students to enable them adapt to University or Campus life which is full of tight academic Schedule. The students through the programme interact with staffs working in the University who in turn share with them on one to one Campus experience and be exposed to full overview of what they should expect when they join University. As part of an elaborate programme, the department of Research Extension Innovation and Resource Mobilization initiated collaborations by outsourcing from our notable partners like Books for Africa.

Training workshop on Rabbit Rearing

The office of Research, Extension Innovation and Resource Mobilizations organised a workshop for farmers from Kisii and Nyamira counties on Rabbit Rearing. The workshop covered the following thematic areas; Introduction, types of rabbits and their characteristics, rabbit feeding, Rabbit diseases, Rabbit pedigree and Value addition. The training aimed at encouraging farmers to start rabbit farming by equipping them with the necessary skills on rabbit rearing.

Training Workshop on Entrepreneurship skills

The office of Research, Extension Innovation and Resource Mobilizations conducted a training workshop for youths on Entrepreneurship skills. The workshop targeted youths from Kisii and Nyamira counties. The workshop aimed at equipping them with skills on business management and planning
